Big changes are coming to the world of The Walking Dead comics this year. For the first time since the series debuted, “The Walking Dead” has changed the format of the comic book series. Instead of one monthly comic book release, readers will be able to buy each story as an individual book. For fans of the comic, this will mean there is a lot more diversity to the stories being told. Instead of just one story being told, there will be many stories that will be released.
You may be one of the Walking Dead fans that are wondering if the Reapers are actually in the comics, or if they are just random characters in the books. The answer is no, they are not in the comics. The comics have some characters that are featured in the show, but their stories are never directly adapted from the comics. The Reapers are introduced in the season 11 finale, and they are the antagonists of the show.
So, it’s no secret that readers aren’t the only one that are interested in this book. Many people are very eager to learn more about the Reapers, and why they are so important for Negan’s plans. Some people are saying that the Reapers are just another delusion of Negan, but I think that they are the real deal. According to The Walking Dead comic book series, the Reapers are an advanced group of genetically engineered humans, who were created by Negan to be the ultimate weapon against the Saviors, who are constantly at war with them. They are also called “The Saviors’ greatest threat”, and Negan himself is very dependent on them.
When the Reapers arrive in “Hunted,” there’s a terrible new danger on The Walking Dead, and even comic book fans won’t know what to expect. Season 10 shows that Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) gets “marked” by Pope (Ritchie Coster), the cruel commander of the Reapers, a human-hunting band of masked marauders that seized the Meridian, when she comes home at the end of the Whisperer War. A starving Alexandria’s final chance for survival is the village where Maggie resided with the Wardens, but reclaiming it means facing fierce enemies unlike any the survivors have ever encountered on The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead comics put Rick Grimes and his band of survivors against a variety of foes, including Woodbury, the Marauders, the Hunters, the Scavengers, the Saviors, and the Whisperers, but the Reapers, as Maggie’s people refer to them, are not from the comics.
“One of the most appealing aspects of being able to adapt anything is that the comic books will always be available. That narrative will always remain in the form in which it was written by [Walking Dead creator] Robert [Kirkman] “TWDUniverse spoke with executive producer Denise Huth about the new villains developed for The Walking Dead’s last season. “However, because you’re creating a television series based on it, and because we’ve been doing it for so long, we’re not in that early-year mindset of, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do this, we’ve got to do this,’ because we understood those moments that the comic book fans really wanted. It gives us a little more breathing room and enables us to bring some new stories that aren’t in the comic books, which I think is always interesting for us.”
With the arrival of the Commonwealth, a sophisticated society guarded by General Mercer (Michael James Shaw) and the Commonwealth Army’s white-armored military police, The Walking Dead adapts the finale of Kirkman’s zombie comic book epic. Huth described the Reapers as a “totally blank slate.” “It’s thrilling for us and the characters because [viewers] have no idea where it’s heading.”

In the Season 10 episode “Home Sweet Home,” a ghillie-suited sniper (Mike Whinnet) assaults Maggie and Daryl (Norman Reedus), shooting down her pals Maya (Brianna Butler), Ainsley (Haley Leary), and Gus (David Atkinson), the assassin informs Maggie, “Pope marked you.” When Season 11 Episode 4, “Rendition,” unmasks an old acquaintance who has joined the Reapers’ ranks, The Walking Dead will expose Pope.
“We know Maggie was pursued by the Reapers and that she had previously clashed with them. Daryl went there to get a sense of how deadly they are “On the TWD Season 11 Preview Special, showrunner Angela Kang hinted. “I don’t want to give too much away about the Reapers because I believe there will be a lot revealed about them,” she says. “But we do know they’re very formidable.”
Kang claimed these Halloween-masked villains were already deadly and competent before the zombie apocalypse, describing each murderer as a “extremely vicious, organized warrior” at San Diego Comic-Con.
“These are the apex of human assassination. It’s simply a really difficult kind of adversary to face “Kang said. “They don’t depend on numbers and volume of people to fight against in order to sort of live, so they’re a tight-knit bunch, and they’re just very formidable in a manner that our characters don’t frequently come against,” says the character.
In Season 11 Episode 3, “Hunted,” debuting tonight at 9/8c on AMC, the Reapers are on the lookout for Maggie and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). When “Rendition” debuts on AMC on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m., or watch now on AMC+, Episode 4 reveals this new enemy organization.

Season 10 of The Walking Dead took an interesting turn, as the main characters found themselves in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, battling against the reapers, who are actually the real villains. Although the show is based on the comic books, the show’s writers have taken some liberties to make the series work for television. Whether or not Reapers are really in The Walking Dead comics, it’s hard to say. But the villains are definitely the most powerful characters in the series, and Season 11 will no doubt feature some new twists.
